When you're trying to learn a new skill or master a technique, one of the best ways to do so is to start a project. Diving into one engages you with a practical means to learn. Not only are they fun projects to try, but they also give a sense of gratification. Here are some other reasons why I think they are great.
Personalized learning
Teachers have to educate a large number of students, all of which have unique ways of learning. To accommodate they have to teach with a one size fits all mentality, problem is, if that doesn't fit you, you're out of luck. One of the biggest advantages of project-based learning is that it allows you to set the pace and structure in a way that best suits your needs. You have the freedom to explore the subject matter in a way that aligns with your learning style, ensuring a deeper understanding.
Immediate Feedback
Reading a textbook can make you feel smart but when you actually take a test you realize are so dumb? It's because reading is passive learning which does not allow feedback, it's the reason why practice problems, which active learning, is better. Projects also expose holes in your learning which can be great to identify what you still need to improve on
No Cheating
Cheating benefits no one. It deprives you of truly understanding the material, creating gaps in your knowledge, and the classes only get harder from there. Projects eliminate the temptation to cheat because the only way to cheat the process is to ruin the whole reason of doing the project to begin with. You can only cheat yourself, and the project’s success depends on your genuine understanding and application of the material.
Learn as you go
Why I think it's such a great idea is because you can learn only the relevant material. University can just dump bunch of random pieces of information and you just have to piece together of what actually is important. when you're starting a project, you only learn about the relevant subjects and topics, and concepts better that apply to the project itself, and therefore, you can reinforce because you’re learning information that directly contributes to achieving your project goals
How you should prepare
You obviously need to do your basics, sleep, nutrition and exercise as well as prime your brain via meditation.
If you're new to a subject, start small and develop your skills. If you are experienced, identify what you need to improve on.
